Second Hearing Scheduled for Proposed Dunedin Causeway Watercraft Launch Ordinance
The City of Dunedin is considering an ordinance to prohibit the launching of motorized watercraft on the south side of the Dunedin Causeway.
The first public hearing on the proposed ordinance was held on Thursday, July 23. The City Commission voted 4-0 to move forward with the proposal after considering public input. A second hearing is scheduled for the September 3 Commission Meeting at 6 p.m. at Dunedin City Hall.
The proposed ordinance only prohibits the launching of motorized watercraft from the south side of the Causeway and will not affect the operation of motorized watercraft in the Intracoastal Waterway or St. Joseph Sound. The launching of motorized vessels is already prohibited on the north side of the Causeway, west of the drawbridge.
The public is encouraged to provide input at the September 3 public hearing, whether in person, through e-Comment on the City website, or by emailing the
City Commission at CityCommission@Dunedin.gov.

Deadline Approaching for Two Pinellas Hurricane Recovery Programs
Pinellas County residents affected by Hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton have until July 31 to apply for the county's Homebuyer Assistance Program and Disaster Relief Reimbursement Program for Renters.
The programs are two of five launched by the county as part of its People First Hurricane Recovery initiative, which uses federal disaster recovery funding to help residents still struggling in the aftermath of the 2023 and 2024 hurricane seasons.
Applications for the People First Homeowner and Landlord Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program, Homeowner Reimbursement Program and Disaster Relief Reimbursement Program for Homeowners will remain open.
More than 600 households have been approved for assistance, and thousands of applications are currently under review across all five programs. Click Learn More for additional information or to apply.

Sign Up for Emergency Alerts From Pinellas County
In an emergency, every second counts. The City of Dunedin encourages all residents to sign up for Alert Pinellas, the official emergency notification system used by Pinellas County, local municipalities and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. This free service delivers critical, timely alerts directly from trusted sources.
Residents can also download the Ready Pinellas app, which sends push notifications from Alert Pinellas and provides emergency alerts from Pinellas County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service.

Committee on Aging Seeks New Member
The City of Dunedin is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on its Committee on Aging.
The committee is composed of 11 regular members and two alternate members who serve three-year terms. Applicants must be residents of the City of Dunedin.
The Committee on Aging serves in an advisory capacity to the City Commission on matters related to the well-being of Dunedin's senior adult population.

July 30: Back-to-School Bash
Families are invited to the annual Back-to-School Bash on Thursday, July 30, from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center.
The free event will help families prepare for the upcoming school year with information on before- and after-school programs, health and wellness, safety, extracurricular activities, sports and more. Children can also enjoy games, face painting, inflatables and a barbecue. The first 200 school-aged children will receive a free backpack filled with school supplies.
Businesses, organizations and community groups are invited to exhibit and connect with local families. The cost is $25 per vendor, and nonprofit organizations may participate free of charge.

City to Commemorate Purple Heart Day
The City of Dunedin will host a Purple Heart Day Recognition Ceremony on Friday, August 7, at 10 a.m. to honor the service and sacrifice of members of the U.S. Armed Forces who were wounded or killed in combat.
The ceremony will pay tribute to all veterans, with special recognition of Purple Heart recipients. The program will include a helicopter flyover, an Honor Guard rifle salute and keynote remarks by Dr. Richard T. Weltz, commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Department of Florida.

 Tickets Still Available for Rays Day Trip
Tickets are still available for the Hale Senior Activity Center's day trip to see the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Athletics on Thursday, September 17.
Adults ages 40 and older are invited to enjoy a day at Tropicana Field. The cost is $65 per person and includes round-trip bus transportation. The bus will depart from the Hale Senior Activity Center at 11 a.m. and return at approximately 5 p.m.

 Free Educational Seminars Planned at Hale Senior Activity Center
The Hale Senior Activity Center will host two free educational seminars in August. Both programs are open to the public, and walk-ins are welcome.
On Tuesday, August 11, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Pinellas County Consumer Protection will present "Wheel of Consumer Knowledge: Spin & Learn," an interactive seminar focused on consumer awareness.
On Tuesday, August 18, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., SHINE, through the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, will present "Medicare Basics," covering Medicare Parts A, B, C and D.

Library to Offer Boater Safety Presentation
The Dunedin Public Library will host "Safety 'N Boating: An Introduction to Boating Safety" on Thursday, August 6, at 11 a.m.
Presented by Buddy Altman of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Dunedin Flotilla, the free program will introduce participants to the basics of safe boating. Topics include the anatomy of a boat, essential boating knots, navigation rules and other boating safety fundamentals. Attendees also will have an opportunity to ask questions.
Those interested in learning more about boater safety can also register for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's Boater Safety Course, scheduled for August 8 and 9 at the Dunedin Marina.
