Dunedin Fire Rescue Members Receive Medal of Valor for Lifesaving Rescue
Dunedin Fire Rescue presented the Medal of Valor, the department’s most prestigious award, to Firefighter/Paramedic Adam “AJ” Gonzales and Firefighter/EMT Makayla Bowers for their actions during a structure fire on October 14.
Gonzales and Bowers were the first unit on the scene when bystanders told them a person was still inside. Operating from a medic unit and carrying only a three-gallon water can, they made the decision to enter the burning building, where they located the victim and pulled him to safety.
Once outside, Gonzales and Bowers immediately began medical care, helping to save the victim’s life.
“This level of bravery, decisiveness and composure under extreme conditions exemplifies the highest traditions of the fire service and reflects great credit upon themselves and Dunedin Fire Rescue,” said Fire Chief Michael Handoga.
The actions of Gonzales and Bowers reflect the extraordinary character of those who choose to serve and protect the residents of Dunedin, and we thank them for their courageous service.

EyeOnWater App Helps Residents Monitor Water Use
Dunedin residents now have access to a tool that will help them take control of their water use and better understand their monthly utility bills. The EyeOnWater app is available to most Dunedin utility customers, providing real-time access to daily water usage from a smartphone, tablet or computer.
The free app works with the City’s smart water meter system and allows users to view hourly, daily and monthly water consumption. About 90% of the City’s customers have already been switched to the cellular water meters, which means they can start using the app today. By the end of the year, all customers will have access.
