Pinellas County Sheriff Addresses 2024 City Theft
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri spoke at the July 3 City Commission meeting regarding a scam in June 2024 that led to the theft of approximately $663,000 from the City. One arrest has been made, and the City is working closely with the Sheriff’s Office to recover the funds.
In response, the City has implemented new safeguards for vendor payments and strengthened internal controls to protect against future fraud.

City of Dunedin Names New Parks & Recreation Director
The City of Dunedin has named Tony Mulkey as its new Parks and Recreation Director.
Mulkey joins Dunedin from the City of Tampa, where he most recently served as Director of Parks and Recreation, overseeing more than 200 park properties, 42 facilities and up to 900 employees seasonally. He also previously served as Tampa’s Special Events Superintendent, coordinating major national events like Super Bowl LV and the NCAA Women’s Final Four.
In Dunedin, Mulkey will oversee the City’s parks and recreational facilities, the Dunedin Marina and golf operations, as well as special events. His responsibilities will also include leading strategic planning, managing capital improvements and serving as the City’s liaison to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Mulkey replaces longtime Parks and Recreation Director Vince Gizzi, who retired in March after 17 years of service. Mulkey will begin his new role on July 28.

Temporary Closure: Washington Street Flooding Project Underway
Please be advised that Washington Street, between Broadway and Victoria Drive, will be closed from July 9 through July 25 for restoration work.
This closure is part of a larger infrastructure project to help mitigate street flooding in the area. The contractor will be installing new curbing, rebuilding the road base, and repaving the street to improve drainage and long-term resiliency.

Pinellas County to Host Upcoming Hurricane Preparedness Expos
Pinellas County Emergency Management is partnering with the cities of Tarpon Springs and St. Pete Beach to host two upcoming Storm Mitigation Expos. These events will offer residents valuable information on how to better protect their homes from hurricanes and other severe weather events.

July marks the 40th anniversary of National Park and Recreation Month. This year’s theme, “Build Together, Play Together,” reminds us that strong communities grow where we gather, play and connect.
On Thursday, July 3, the City Commission officially proclaimed the month National Park and Recreation Month in Dunedin, recognizing our City's dedicated Parks and Recreation team.

Beginner Tai Chi Class Offered at Dunedin Library
The Taoist Tai Chi Society of Dunedin will offer a free introductory class on Friday, July 11, at 2 p.m. at the Dunedin Library.
In this beginner session, instructors will introduce participants to the foundational movements of Taoist Tai Chi™ arts. The class is designed to help individuals feel comfortable, improve balance and experience the calming, meditative aspects of the practice. Participants will also be introduced to the deeper elements of Taoist Tai Chi™ traditions and philosophy.
