Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Tropical moisture will remain in place today behind yesterdays upper-level disturbance helping to keep shower and thunderstorm activity elevated statewide.
  • Daytime heating and abundant moisture will help to create scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the state this afternoon and evening, with the greatest chance along the Panhandle and West Florida (55-90% chance of rain).
  • Repeated rounds of heavy downpours may lead to instances of flash flooding and ponding of water, and the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for Flash Flooding across the Panhandle and Big Bend towards the I-75 corridor.
  • Rainfall totals of 1-2" can be expected, with locally higher totals upwards of 3-5" possible especially along the Panhandle coastline.
  • With daytime heating, embedded locally strong to severe thunderstorms cannot be ruled out and may be capable of producing frequent lightning, gusty winds and intense downpours.
  • High temperatures will continue to reach the upper 80s to lower 90s across the state this afternoon.
  • Heat index values will reach the upper 90s across the Panhandle with elevated cloud cover, but the rest of the state can expect values in the triple digits (100-105-degrees).
  • As the disturbance continues to move westward overnight, drier air will begin to filter in from the east; however, isolated to widely scattered off and on showers and thunderstorms will be possible throughout the overnight hours along the Panhandle and Gulf Coast (30-55% chance of rain).
  • Low temperatures will remain in the middle to upper 70s and lower 80s across the state overnight.
  • There is a moderate to high risk of rip currents for Panhandle beaches and a moderate risk of rip currents for all East Coast beaches.
  • North Central Gulf - A weak low-pressure system over the north-central Gulf is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Over the next day or two this system will move westward over the north-central Gulf where some slow development is possible before it moves inland, ending its chances for development. Regardless of development, local heavy rainfall is possible for portions of the northern Gulf coast through this weekend.
  • Formation chance through 48 hours... low...10%.
  • Formation chance through 7 days...low...10%.
