EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
- The ongoing wet and active weather pattern continues across the Sunshine State today, courtesy of an approaching frontal boundary.
- Rain chances today shift southeastward to the Florida Peninsula, with widespread showers and thunderstorms expected (75-near 100% chance of rain).
- Thunderstorms could become locally strong this afternoon and capable of producing gusty winds (40-50 mph), very frequent lightning, and torrential downpours.
- Intense rainfall rates will bring instances of flash flooding and ponding water; Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) for Flash Flooding along the Florida West Coast, Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for North and Central Florida.
- Heat index values will remain in the middle to upper 90s statewide, with portions of the Suwannee River Valley and Northeast Florida reaching triple digits (100-103-degrees).
- Rain chances remain elevated tonight across portions of the Florida Peninsula and along the West Florida coastline (55-70% chance of rain).
- Instances of patchy fog may be possible early Friday morning given lingering low-level moisture and calm winds across the Suwannee River Valley.
- An elevated risk of rip currents can be expected for most Florida beaches today, with a locally high risk residing along Gulf County beaches.
- The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to monitor the southwest Atlantic for potential tropical development this weekend. Environmental conditions are only marginally conducive to support the gradual formation of a tropical or subtropical depression along a weakening cold front. Regardless of development, widespread rain and thunderstorm activity will continue across Northeast Florida and the Florida Peninsula into early next week.
- There is a low (20%) chance of development over the next 48 hours and a medium (60%) chance of development over the next 7 days.
