Water Maintenance Program is Underway
 The second segment of the 2026 Water Maintenance Program is currently underway and runs through Oct. 10. During this routine maintenance period, Pinellas County Utilities and the city of Clearwater temporarily switch drinking water disinfection from chloramines to chlorine to help maintain the integrity of the water distribution system. The water remains safe to drink and meets all federal and state standards.
Some customers may notice a stronger chlorine odor or taste. Running the tap for a few minutes, allowing a pitcher of water to sit for several hours or using a carbon filter may help. People who use kidney dialysis equipment and owners of fish or other aquatic life should contact their service providers for guidance.

Clearwater Offshore Nationals
Sept. 25 to 27, Pier 60
 The sounds of seagulls and gentle waves on Clearwater Beach will be replaced by the thrilling roar of approximately 90 race boats competing in the 2026 Xinsurance Clearwater Offshore Nationals, held Sept. 25 to 27.
Specially built, low-slung boats up to 50 feet long will race at speeds up to 150 mph in the Gulf. The competition for national championships will be fierce as boats and crews vie to qualify for the World Championships in Key West in November.

North Greenwood Planned Redevelopment District Overlay Community Meeting

North Greenwood Recreation Center, 900 N. MLK Jr. Ave.
 Based on the North Greenwood Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) plan and community input, the city of Clearwater is planning to adopt a Planned Redevelopment District (PRD) overlay for most of the North Greenwood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). An overlay is an extra layer of land use rules that sits on top of the Future Land Use Map and Zoning Atlas.
Clearwater planning staff will host three community meetings to hear ideas about types of housing to include, how new buildings should look and where buildings and parking should be located. Snacks will be provided. Join us to share your feedback. Other community meeting dates and times are Oct. 27 and Dec. 8, both at 5:30 p.m.

City Employees Move In to New City Hall
Progress continues at Clearwater’s new City Hall as employees move into the building. Employees who previously worked across several locations, including leased offices, are coming together in one centralized municipal campus alongside the Clearwater Police Department headquarters and the Municipal Services Building. Bringing more departments to one location will make it easier for residents to connect with city staff and access services.
Final exterior work remains underway. City council and advisory board meetings will continue to be held at the Clearwater Main Library for now. Details about a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be announced at a later date.
Pinellas Commission Declares State of Local Emergency for Dengue Fever
 Shown are potential mosquito breeding grounds, where water can pool on your property. Spill the water at least once weekly to prevent the growth of the mosquito population.
The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners declared a State of Local Emergency Sept. 24 for the mosquito-borne spread of dengue fever impacting Pinellas County.
As of the Florida Department of Health’s latest report issued Sept. 24, Pinellas County has seven confirmed cases. The Tampa Bay region has 179 confirmed cases across Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough counties. Additionally, Pinellas County has observed increased West Nile virus activity in sentinel chicken coops, which is an early warning for potential human transmission.
Residents are reminded to spill standing water around the outside of their homes at least once weekly. This will help interrupt the mosquito breeding cycle.
'Extreme' Water Shortage Order Extended To March 31, 2027
 The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) has extended the “Extreme” Water Shortage Order for Pinellas County and surrounding areas, including Clearwater, through March 31, 2027.
Despite recent summer storms, SWFWMD reports that the region’s average 12-month rainfall total is 15.4 inches below normal. Water levels across the region’s lakes, rivers, and aquifer remain very low for this time of year. Cutting back on outdoor water use is one of the fastest and most effective ways we can all help protect our water supply.
Clearwater residents should follow the city's watering restrictions and watering schedule for all water sources, including reclaimed water.

3D Visualization Video of Downtown Clearwater’s Urban Renaissance
 The city of Clearwater has released a new video highlighting development projects underway and future investment opportunities in downtown Clearwater. Produced in partnership with the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, the video shows how public and private investments are helping create a more vibrant, connected destination where people can live, work, shop and dine.
 Clearwater residents have until Sept. 30 to register for Switch Together, a group-buying program designed to make rooftop solar more affordable.
The program, offered in partnership with the nonprofit Solar United Neighbors, connects participants with vetted installers and group-discounted pricing. Discounts also are available for battery storage and electric vehicle chargers.

Clearwater CRA Celebrates Florida Redevelopment Week
Throughout the week, the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) highlighted projects, partnerships and investments supporting Downtown Clearwater and North Greenwood. From infrastructure and public spaces to business support, affordable housing and future development, these efforts show how redevelopment is helping build stronger, more connected communities.
 Clearwater utility customers have a chance to win a Visa gift card through the 2026 InvoiceCloud Sweepstakes.
Customers can receive one entry by enrolling in AutoPay and paperless billing through the city’s InvoiceCloud payment portal. Active customers who are already enrolled are automatically entered.
InvoiceCloud will award $250 Visa gift cards to 15 customers and $50 Visa gift cards to 24 customers. Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 31.
The Clearwater Public Utilities Department closed Baker Avenue at Drew Street as utility work continues along the corridor. The right-turn lane from Betty Lane onto Drew Street is also closed. Betty Lane will remain open to traffic during the work.
After work at Baker Avenue is complete, crews will shift the traffic-control setup closer to Highland Avenue. Drivers should follow posted signs and allow additional travel time.

Tree Code Update Meetings

 The city of Clearwater is preparing an amendment to the city's tree code to clarify requirements, improve usability, and update tree removal permit fees.
The Clearwater City Council previously held a work session to review recent amendments to the Pinellas County tree code, the city’s adopted tree code and potential changes to the city’s tree code. The tree code amendment is tentatively scheduled for adoption in February 2027.
Community meetings will be held for residents to learn more about the upcoming changes to the tree code.

Osceola Parking Garage Quickly Takes Shape in Downtown Clearwater
The Osceola Parking Garage is becoming more visible as crews install precast concrete columns, beams and parking deck sections. These components are manufactured and cured off site, then are delivered ready to be lifted into place. This allows the garage’s frame and new levels to take shape quickly.
The city is building the garage at 155 S. Osceola Ave., near Coachman Park and other downtown destinations. When complete, it will provide 397 public parking spaces and approximately 12,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Completion is expected in early 2027.
