Water Maintenance Program Runs Sept. 21 Through Oct. 10
 The second segment of the 2026 Water Maintenance Program runs Sept. 21 through Oct. 10. During this routine maintenance period, Pinellas County Utilities and the city of Clearwater temporarily switch drinking water disinfection from chloramines to chlorine to help maintain the integrity of the water distribution system. The water remains safe to drink and meets all federal and state standards.
Some customers may notice a stronger chlorine odor or taste. Running the tap for a few minutes, allowing a pitcher of water to sit for several hours or using a carbon filter may help. Users of kidney dialysis equipment and owners of fish or other aquatic life should contact their service providers for guidance.

 Clearwater Offshore Nationals
Sept. 25 to 27, Pier 60 and Clearwater Beach
 The sounds of seagulls and gentle waves on Clearwater Beach will be replaced by the thrilling roar of approximately 90 race boats competing in the 2026 Xinsurance Clearwater Offshore Nationals, held Sept. 25 to 27.
Specially-built speed boats up to 50 feet long will race at speeds up to 150 miles per hour in the gulf. The competition for national championships will be fierce as boats and crews vie to qualify for the World Championships in Key West in November.
The races will be easy to see along Clearwater Beach. The 2.5-mile-long race course will be just a couple of hundred yards off and parallel to the beach. Turn One will be about 100 yards off Clearwater Beach’s famous Pier 60. A spectator fleet of private and tour boats will anchor in a pre-determined safe area, and several tour boat companies are offering race-day cruises.

Utility Customer Service to Close Early Sept. 18
 The department will close early at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. This includes our phone lines, lobby, and in-person payment services. Customers will still be able to make payments online, the drop box, or kiosk during this time. We will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21.

'Spill The Water' Around Your Home to Prevent Mosquitoes
 Pinellas County is under a mosquito-borne illness alert following a rise in dengue fever. As of Sept. 15, five cases had been confirmed in Pinellas County, with several more across the Tampa Bay area. Pinellas County Mosquito Control has increased surveillance, inspections and treatments. Still, residents play an essential role in prevention.
Dengue is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Even a bottle cap can hold enough water for mosquitoes to breed.
What You Can Do to Protect Yourself and Others
At least once a week, walk around the outside of your home and “spill the water”:
- Empty and scrub buckets, flowerpot saucers, toys, coolers, pet dishes and birdbaths.
- Turn over wheelbarrows, wagons and other containers.
- Cover rain barrels, garbage cans and anything used to store water.
- Clear clogged gutters and remove discarded tires or debris.
- Treat water that cannot be emptied with a mosquito-control product containing Bti, following label directions.
- Use an insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
- Wear loose-fitting long sleeves and pants when practical.
- Repair damaged window, door and patio screens.
The mosquitoes that spread dengue can bite during the day and at night. Dengue symptoms may include fever, severe muscle or joint pain, headache, nausea and rash. Contact a health care provider if symptoms develop.

Clearwater Recognized for Excellence in Sports Tourism
The Florida Sports Foundation recognized the Clearwater Parks & Recreation teams with a Florida Recreation and Park Association's Sports Tourism Award at the annual FRPA Conference.
The award recognizes Clearwater as a mid-to-large market destination and home to the Eddie C. Moore Complex, which hosted 28 softball events between April 2025 and March 2026. The nomination was made by Visit St. Pete-Clearwater.

Traffic Crews Complete Emergency Signal Repair
 Clearwater Traffic crews recently completed an emergency repair at the intersection of the U.S. 19 frontage road and Countryside Boulevard after the traffic signal began experiencing problems during periods of rain. An inspection identified degraded wiring in part of the system.
Three bucket trucks worked in tandem, allowing crews to quickly rewire the affected section and restore the signal to reliable operation. The coordinated response helped expedite the repair and minimize disruptions at this busy intersection.

New Mosaic Sculpture 'Ketch' to be Unveiled at Clearwater Beach Marina Walk
Sept. 24, 9:30 a.m., Clearwater Beach Marina
 The city of Clearwater is excited to announce the public unveiling of “Ketch,” a new public art mosaic sculpture by Nevada artist Eileen Gay, along the new Clearwater Beach Marina Walk, located at 25 Causeway Blvd. The artwork is part of the overall Clearwater Beach Marina replacement project.
The unveiling ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 24, and the public is invited to attend. Parking in the Clearwater Beach Marina parking lot will be free from 9 to 11 a.m. for attendees.
 The right westbound lane closure on Drew Street has extended to North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue as crews continue installing a new water main.
Most Drew Street intersections between Betty Lane and North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue continue to be closed. North Washington Avenue remains open, while Baker Avenue will temporarily close again during the week.
Drivers should follow posted detours, use caution and allow additional travel time. The city appreciates the community’s patience during construction.

Save the Date for Achieva Clearwater Turkey Trot
 One of Tampa Bay’s longest-running Thanksgiving traditions is back. The city of Clearwater and Achieva Credit Union will welcome thousands of runners, walkers and families to the 2026 Achieva Clearwater Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 26, at Clearwater High School.
Participants of all ages and abilities can choose from three signature race options:
