Hurricane Season Begins June 1
Prepare now and attend local expos to prepare for storm season
 Don't miss the free hurricane preparedness event May 30, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the North Greenwood Recreation Center, 900 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. It will help you and your family get ready for hurricane season.
Event highlights will include:
- Free hurricane kit supplies
- Evacuation zone lookup
- Special needs evacuation program registration
- Emergency shelter demonstration
- Sandbag demonstration
- Recovery resources and services
- Free disaster legal aid
- Business resource center
- Free pet services (with purchase of a county license): exams, rabies shots and microchips
- Blood drive with OneBlood (donors receive a $20 gift card)
- Opportunity to see emergency response vehicles up close
- Children's hurricane education zone
- Free hot dogs and chips provided by the Salvation Army
This event is hosted by Pinellas County and the city of Clearwater.

Summer Reading Begins June 1
 The city's Summer Reading Program begins June 1, with Clearwater Public Library System’s “Unearth a Story” Summer Reading Challenge running through Aug. 1. Join the library for kick-off events during the first week of June:
Summer Reading Kick-Off
June 2, 2 to 3 p.m., Countryside Library
- Make a craft with Miss Jill and pick up a free book, while supplies last. All ages are welcome. Registration is not required, and space is first come, first served.
Summer Reading Kick-Off @ Clearwater East
June 3, 2 to 3:30 p.m., East Community Library at SPC
- Celebrate a dino-riffic summer with crafts, games, music and more. Attendees can also sign up for the summer reading program through Beanstack. All ages are welcome. Registration is not required, and space is first-come, first-served.
Florida Orchestra 'Symphony by the Sea'
June 6, 6 p.m., The BayCare Sound
 Mark your calendars for a celebration of America 250, a symphony which mixes patriotic favorites, movie music, Broadway hits and classical standards. It will take place at The BayCare Sound, the waterfront venue in Clearwater which will provide covered seating and access to local food trucks, concessions and bars. There is no need to bring a picnic or chairs. Admission is free. Preferred seating is available for $21.
Attendees are welcome to bring donations for the Salvation Army's food drive.

 The city of Clearwater will host a candidate forum at 6:30 p.m. June 23 for Clearwater City Council seats 4 and 5. The municipal election is Aug. 18.
Clearwater residents will vote to fill two city council seats. Al Ruechel, formerly of Spectrum Bay News 9, will moderate and facilitate the forum. Comments will not be taken from the public.
The forum will be held in Clearwater City Council Chambers at the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave. and will be streamed online and on social media.

Fertilizer Ban Goes Into Effect June 1
 Pinellas County’s annual fertilizer ban goes into effect June 1 through Sept. 30, prohibiting the use of fertilizers containing nitrogen or phosphorus on lawns and landscape plants during the rainy season.
Excess fertilizer can wash into storm drains and waterways, contributing to harmful algae blooms, fish kills and costly water treatment efforts.
Residents are encouraged to use slow-release fertilizers the rest of the year, apply only what is needed and avoid fertilizing before storms to help protect Clearwater’s waterways and wildlife.

 Please note that the Utility Customer Service Department will close early at 3:30 p.m. June 12.
For your convenience, utility payments can still be made online or at the payment kiosk, which is available 24/7.

Recycle Right, Clearwater
 Recycling is one of the easiest ways residents can help protect the environment and keep Clearwater beautiful. By properly recycling everyday items such as paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and aluminum cans, you can help reduce landfill waste, conserve resources and support a cleaner future.
Residents should place only accepted recyclable materials in their recycling carts and avoid contamination from items, such as plastic bags, food waste and household garbage. Small actions at home can make a big difference for the community and the environment.

Solar Celebration at North Greenwood Recreation Center
 The city of Clearwater will host a free, community Solar Celebration from 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 27, at the North Greenwood Recreation Center to highlight the facility’s new solar installation.
Residents are invited to attend and learn more about the city’s growing solar initiatives. You can also hear from city leaders and project partners, and see how the new system is helping reduce energy use, lower costs and support Clearwater’s long-term sustainability goals.
The project is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to expanding renewable energy and building a more sustainable and resilient future for the Clearwater community.

 Clearwater residents now have a more convenient way to pay their utility bills with the installation of a self-service payment kiosk.
The kiosk offers 24/7 access, allowing customers to make payments at any time without waiting in line or visiting during regular business hours. Payments can be made using credit card, cash or check, and are applied to accounts instantly.
The kiosk is designed to provide added flexibility and improve customer service by offering a fast, secure payment option outside of traditional office hours. The kiosk is located at 100 S. Myrtle Ave. in Clearwater.
