Storm Recovery and Permitting
oIf you still have open permits from repairs after hurricanes Helene or Milton, now is the time to finish your work, request a final inspection, and close the permit(s). If work has been completed and you want to see if the permit is closed, call (727) 562-4567 for verification.
If another storm impacts our city, open permits could count toward new damages, potentially having repairs and/or improvements to your property equal to or exceed the flood damage prevention ordinance’s 50 percent threshold. This may have the structure designated as substantial damage/improvement, which would require the structure to be brought into compliance with the flood provisions of the Florida Building Code and the city’s Community Development Code, Chapter 51.
Hurricane season begins in less than 110 days. Confirming that your permit status is closed becomes critical. It will protect your property value, help avoid unnecessary complications after future storms, and keep your records clean and accurate.

Solar Projects Approved at City Facilities

The city of Clearwater is moving forward with new solar installations at the Long Center, North Greenwood Recreation Center, Countryside Library and city hall. These projects will help reduce long-term electricity costs and protect the city from rising utility rates.
By combining a U.S. Department of Energy grant with federal elective pay incentives, the city is able to offset up to 80 percent of the project costs. Over time, the solar systems are projected to save the city approximately $6 million in avoided electric utility expenses, with payback periods of just a few years.
