What You Might Have Missed
Holy Mackerel! Lake Belleview’s Neighborhood Made a Splash With Their First-Ever Fish Derby and Lake Clean Up!
On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Lake Belleview Neighborhood Association hosted its first-ever Nature Expo Fish Derby & Lake Clean-Up, and what a splash it made!
Locally known as The Belle, Lake Belleview is a 30-acre, spring-fed natural gem at the heart of the neighborhood. It serves as both a scenic centerpiece and a thriving habitat for native plants, migratory birds, and local wildlife. Over the past five years, the local neighborhood association, the City of Clearwater, environmental partners, and dedicated volunteers have worked together to monitor water quality, manage invasive species, and restore the health of this important natural resource.
To celebrate the success of this long-term campaign, community members, city officials, neighborhood association leaders, and local vendors all came together for a day of learning, fun, and hands-on stewardship. Residents even had the chance to compete in the Fish Derby, with prizes awarded for categories like biggest catch and most fish caught by a team!
If you missed this event, don't worry! Stay tuned for future opportunities to explore nature, support local neighborhoods and celebrate incredible community resources.

Three Lanes of Traffic Along a Portion of Court Street to Close Jan. 20
Beginning Jan. 20, crews will be repairing aging sanitary sewer manholes beneath Court Street. For about two weeks, three of the four westbound lanes between South Prospect Avenue and South Garden Avenue will be closed.
Crews will be working around the clock to keep the project moving quickly. With only one westbound lane open, drivers may experience delays, so this is a great time to consider alternate routes like Drew Street, Fort Harrison Avenue, or West Bay Drive/Belleair Causeway.
Detour signs and message boards will help guide drivers through the area. Please use extra caution, especially near the Pinellas Trail. The work should be finished in about two weeks, weather permitting.

Holiday Collection Schedules for Christmas and New Year's Day
Thursday collections for Christmas and New Year’s will be made on the Wednesday before the holiday, for both residential and commercial solid waste and recycling collections.
Thursday’s commercial cardboard collection will be picked up Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Crews will be working Jan. 19, so there will be no change to the collection schedule for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Several city services continue to be available at MyClearwater.com when the city is closed. Residents with questions about solid waste collections can call the Solid Waste Operations Line at (727) 562-4920.

Put Holiday Waste to Its Highest and Best Use
The holidays bring more waste than any other time of year - about 25% more between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. You can help reduce what goes to the landfill by placing clean, dry recyclables such as plastic bottles, metal cans, glass, flattened cardboard and paper in your blue bin.
Wrapping paper goes in the trash if it’s foil, can’t be torn easily, or has glitter or shiny plastic. Tissue paper, bows and ribbon also belong in the garbage. Save gift bags to reuse next year.
Remember to keep recyclables loose, and never place plastic bags, bubble wrap or air pillows in your blue bin. Take those items to your local grocery store instead.

Donate to the We Care Fund
Life’s unexpected challenges like an illness or job loss can make it difficult for some residents to keep up with basic utilities. Clearwater’s We Care Fund helps during these tough moments. Since 1992, donations from the city and its utility customers have supported hundreds of households, with the Salvation Army administering the funds to ensure temporary assistance reaches eligible residents.
Because hardships can happen any time of year, the need is ongoing. Even a small monthly contribution of a dollar or two on your utility bill can make a meaningful difference for a neighbor trying to get back on their feet.
To learn more or make a donation, visit MyClearwater.com/WeCare. Thank you for supporting your community.
