Clearwater Celebrates Its Lifeguard Teams
The city of Clearwater would like to highlight the lifeguards who work hard every day to ensure the safety of all residents. July 31 is International Lifeguard Day, and we honor the courageous men and women who watch over our shores and pools every day, from Clearwater Beach to our recreation centers. These water safety heroes train hard to keep our beaches and pools safe and fun for all residents and visitors.
Today, let's show gratitude for all the lifeguards at Clearwater Beach towers, teams who respond in seconds with CPR and rescue skills, and those keeping our summers worry-free so we can soak up the sun. Remember to respect the rules, listen to their advice, and give them a thank you for keeping the community safe.
Shown above are the recreation center lifeguards who work at North Greenwood Recreation Center.

Beating the Heat

-
Schedule Outdoor Activities: Be mindful of when you spend time outdoors by avoiding strenuous activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when temperatures tend to peak. If you do need to be outside, take frequent breaks in shaded or cooler areas. This makes your time outside more tolerable. Smart planning can keep you refreshed during Florida’s warm months.
-
Energy Efficiency at Home: Boost your home’s efficiency by switching to appliances that are Energy Star-rated. These models consume less power while still performing reliably. To further reduce energy waste, unplug electronics and chargers when they’re not in use to avoid phantom power. Simple habits like this contribute to a more energy-conscious lifestyle.
-
Sustainable Commuting: Whenever possible, opt for sustainable modes of transportation like walking, biking or public transit. These alternatives reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help ease traffic congestion. You can also combine errands into one efficient trip to minimize car usage. Small changes in how you commute can lead to long-term environmental benefits and cost savings.
