Clearwater Gas System Becomes CGS Energy
Clearwater Gas System’s name has been updated to CGS Energy. The city of Clearwater originally formed Clearwater Gas System (CGS) in 1924, serving customers in Clearwater and surrounding areas. Today, the utility continues to provide natural gas to Clearwater and 16 other cities across portions of Pinellas and Pasco counties.
The only changes customers will see is a new logo, branding and website at CGSEnergy.org. All gas services will remain the same, and customers will not experience any interruptions in service, due to the name change.

Fertilizer Ban in Effect Until Sept. 30
To help protect our waterways, Pinellas County residents cannot spread any fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus to a lawn or landscaped area through Sept. 30. Additionally, these fertilizers are prohibited year-round whenever the National Weather Service issues a severe thunderstorm, flood, tropical storm or hurricane watch or warning, or when rainfall of two inches or more is forecast within 24 hours.
Here are some tips to use during the restrictions:
- Look for products with “0-0” as the first two numbers on the fertilizer label.
- Apply iron to keep lawns green during the summer without increasing growth.
- Use compost to enrich soil.
- Set lawn mower blade heights between 3½ to 4 inches for St. Augustine and Bahia turf to encourage deep roots that resist drought, fungus and pests.
- Water no more than ½”-¾” of irrigation twice a week and follow watering restrictions.
- Ensure an irrigation rain shutoff device is installed and working properly. Shut off irrigation system when rainfall is sufficient.
- Buy plants adapted to Florida’s hot and humid climate, and plant them in places that suit their sun and water needs.
