Public Works Crews Test New Roadway Patch
The Public Works Department is testing RockAsphalt, a natural asphalt patching product, to improve roadway maintenance and reduce costs. Made from bituminous limestone mined in Texas, RockAsphalt requires no heating and remains usable indefinitely, unlike traditional patches. It also comes with a three-year guarantee. If a patch fails, the company provides a free replacement, and the warranty restarts.

Break Down and Flatten Cardboard Boxes
Flattening cardboard boxes before placing them in your blue recycling bin is important. Broken-down boxes take up less space in your bin and at the city’s recycling drop-off center. It also helps Clearwater’s recycling crews work faster and more efficiently, because flat boxes are easier to stack and move. This cuts down on pollution, too, since the trucks can carry more at once and make fewer trips.

Pinellas County's 2024 Hurricane Recovery Fund
Pinellas County is putting people first in developing programs funded by $813 million awarded to Pinellas County by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funds will support long-term recovery for our communities hit hard by hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton, including Clearwater.
These funds are designated to primarily benefit low- and moderate-income households and communities. They will be used for unmet needs, the long-term recovery needs that remain after considering all other recovery sources, such as FEMA, the Small Business Administration, insurance, etc.
The county collaborated with cities, community partners and residents to identify those unmet needs, including rebuilding homes and businesses, help for renters, restoring infrastructure, and storm mitigation in the most distressed areas. The draft action plan is Pinellas County’s blueprint for how this funding will be used for recovery and mitigation programs based on existing unmet disaster recovery and mitigation needs.
Once the plan is approved, Pinellas County will begin rolling out recovery programs this fall. Stay up to date on program deadlines and requirements by texting RECOVER to 888777 or by signing up for email updates.

Permit Fees Are No Longer Being Waived

Keep Up With Lawn Maintenance
As we head into the rainy season, keep ahead of your lawn and property’s landscaping. It’s important to keep lawns trimmed to prevent them from growing more than 12 inches in height, as per the city’s landscaping ordinances (3-1502.H). Additionally, shrubs and bushes should be kept in a neat and attractive manner.
Keeping up with lawn and vegetation maintenance helps prevent pests and mosquitoes from forming, and it also maintains the aesthetic standards of our neighborhoods. For questions, residents can reach out to Code Compliance at (727) 562-4720.
