Fertilizer Ban In Effect June 1
From June 1 to Sept. 30, Pinellas County residents may not spread any fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus to a lawn or landscaped area. The purpose of the restrictions is to prevent fertilizer runoff and yard waste from entering bodies of water, and from leaching into groundwater. Excess nitrogen and phosphorus can cause harmful algae blooms that lower oxygen levels and lead to fish kills.
