Hurricane Debris Removal Updates

Clearwater solid waste and debris management crews have completed a second-pass pickup for all residential customers and a first-pass pickup for all commercial customers. This includes vegetation, construction and demolition debris.
Moving forward, all residents and commercial customers are responsible for procuring dumpsters to manage any further construction debris. Call (727) 562-4920 to arrange for dumpster rentals.
Next steps include the removal of tree stumps, leaners and hangers. Ongoing efforts will focus on transporting collected debris to its designated final destination. And the city will begin restoration of impacted debris management sites, such as Marymont and Woodgate parks.
We understand this has been a challenging time for our community. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue to work diligently to restore our city.

Clearwater’s Recycling Update for 2024

As we start a year new, the city of Clearwater would like to thank all of our residents who continued recycling with us last year. In fiscal year 2024, our recycling crews collected and processed approximately 8,856 tons of recyclable material from homes and businesses. That's equivalent to the weight of 1,362 African savanna elephants.
It helps us greatly when customers recycle only the items that are accepted in our program: plastic bottles and containers #1-7, glass bottles and jars, tin/steel cans, flattened cardboard and mixed paper. Items that contaminate our recycling include plastic bags, Foam, bubble wrap, food, yard waste, and electronics. Nonrecyclable items can damage machinery and create hazards for workers. When in doubt, throw it out. Additionally, contaminated materials decrease our chances of negotiating for a better processing rate.

Section of Courtney Campbell Causeway Pedestrian Trail To Close Temporarily
Beginning today, Jan. 14, the southside of the Courtney Campbell Causeway pedestrian trail from Bayshore Boulevard to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard will close through late 2025, weather permitting.
Advanced warning signs will be installed on each side of the pedestrian trail to alert the public of the planned closure. This closure is necessary for crews to construct the pedestrian overpass over Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard east of Bayshore Boulevard, connecting the Bayshore Trail and the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail. Construction activities are expected to finish in late 2026.

Plant a Tree This Arbor Day, Jan. 17

While National Arbor Day is always celebrated on the last Friday in April, many states observe Arbor Day on different dates throughout the year, based on the best times to plant trees in their area. Florida’s Arbor Day is in January because many trees are dormant (not actively growing) and lose less water through transpiration (the evaporation of water from leaves) this time of year, making them easier to transplant without too much stress.
Celebrate Florida Arbor Day Jan. 17, by planting a native tree in your neighborhood.
