In simplest form, if it explodes or launches into the air, it’s illegal in Clearwater.
Did you know that in Clearwater, city ordinances are more restrictive than state law when it comes to fireworks? If you’re thinking of putting on your own fireworks show at home, our advice would be not to do it. Those who put on such private fireworks displays must have a permit to do so.
Do us a favor, and your neighbors a favor, and your neighbor’s dog a favor, and skip the at-home fireworks. There are plenty of other ways to celebrate the July 4th weekend without a bang.
Our best advice? Leave the fireworks to the professionals and stay safe that way.

How to Safely Dispose of Spent Fireworks

If you decide to put on your own fireworks show at home, which first responders do not recommend, proper disposal afterward is important. Fireworks that are not properly disposed of can pose serious dangers to you, the city’s solid waste team, and the environment.
Once the smoke has cleared, dispose of both spent and unused fireworks properly and carefully.
-
Soak them completely in a bucket of water. Overnight is best, if possible.
-
Wrap them up. Once fireworks are wet throughout, drain the excess water and wrap them up in a plastic bag. This helps maintain moisture.
-
Throw them away. Toss the wet bag of used fireworks into your black barrel trash can for safe disposal. Do not place them in your blue recycling barrel or on the curb with your yard waste.
Taking these easy, extra steps will help ensure your safety and that of the city’s solid waste crews.
