Clearwater Hosts ‘Mad Scientist’-Themed Wastewater Plant Tours
The city of Clearwater and Clearwater Public Utilities invite residents to a science-themed open house and tours at one of our wastewater treatment plants. The city’s mad scientists – we mean staff! – from the Marshall Street Water Reclamation Facility will welcome members of the public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, and take them on a tour of our plant, 1605 Harbor Drive in Clearwater.
Visitors can tour the plant, talk to operators about how our wastewater treatment process works, see our giant pools and pumps that are larger than most people, and stay for some science and silliness after the tour.

Parking
“Most people have no idea what happens to their wastewater after it goes down their drains or toilets,” said Richard Gardner, Clearwater Public Utilities Director. “It’s not magic, but it is a precise science, and we’re looking forward to sharing that with our customers on Saturday. Our crews are highly skilled in using physical and biological processes to do in hours what in nature would take weeks.”
