Hello. My name is Amber Brice and I’m Clearwater’s new Arts and Cultural Affairs Coordinator. I live in Dunedin with my husband Corey and our cat Butters. Fun fact, my paternal grandmother was a Douglas and her family founded the town of Dunedin, so I'm a 3rd generation Dunediner. Growing up a couple of miles from downtown Clearwater, I’ve watched it transform over the years and I’m very excited to see what the next 5 years will bring!
After graduating from the University of Florida with a B.A. in Sociology, I became an English teacher and lived in Thailand for one year, and then Japan for two years. Living abroad was an amazing experience that really shaped me as a person and completely changed my world view. It also left me with the travel bug. I’ve traveled to 26 countries and still have many more on my bucket list. In 2014, I became a board member for Clearwater Sister Cities, Inc. and have helped with their yearly Young Ambassador Exchange Program which sends local middle schoolers to Clearwater's Sister City, Nagano, Japan. I’ve also been a member of the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin since 2015 and helped plan the Art Harvest art show from 2017-2019.
Chess is a huge part of my life because my husband is a professional chess player. We even had a chess themed wedding! In 2021-2022, Corey and I traveled to 16 countries in Europe playing chess so he could get closer to his lifelong goal of being a Grandmaster. We host local youth and adult chess tournaments in Dunedin and Tampa. Our goal is to start a non-profit to spread interest in chess and bring access to students and schools who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford lessons. Did you know there hasn’t been a Chess World Champion from the United States since Bobby Fischer in 1975? Our goal is to change that.
I started with the city in 2015, first at the Clearwater East Library, then the Main Library, where I worked as a Programming Specialist for 6 years, bringing art, history and technology programs to patrons. I’ve made a lot of local art connections in my library role, which has helped with the transition into my current position. I look forward to using my knowledge and experience to be able to bring one-of-a-kind events and engaging art to the city that will last for decades and set Clearwater on the map as an art and cultural hub.
