Hurricane Ian: Post-Storm Updates for Residents
The city of Clearwater’s Emergency Management Team is coordinating post-storm recovery efforts for our community. When possible, residents are asked to stay off the roads to allow crews to complete damage assessment and debris cleanup. Find these and other updates at myclearwater.info/ian.
After the Storm
- Recovery is a high priority. Clearwater crews have begun debris removal and repairs.
- Mandatory evacuation orders for residents in Levels A, B and C were lifted at 9 a.m. today.
- Residents are asked to stay off the roads to allow crews to complete damage assessments.
- Access to Clearwater Beach and the Memorial Causeway Bridge are open with no restrictions. Beach and residents who live in Levels A, B and C are urged to remain cautious when returning to their homes.
- The water system experienced minimal damage. There may be a water line issue at Bay Esplanade on the beach, and utility crews are investigating. Nine of the city’s sanitary sewer lift stations are on generator power, and 10 wells are offline because they have no power.
- Treat intersections with inoperable traffic lights as a four-way stop.
- Never drive through flooded areas. Turn around, don’t drown.
- Do not go near a downed power line. Electricity can spread outward through the ground.
- Do not walk in floodwater. Waste, wildlife and other hazards can contaminate waters and cause illness or harm.
- Keep generators in well-ventilated locations outside, away from all doors, windows and vent openings.
City Facilities
- Clearwater city offices will remain closed Thursday, Sept. 29, and will resume regular business hours Friday, Sept. 30. Staff is assessing Clearwater’s indoor and outdoor facilities and will determine a reopening plan for Clearwater recreation facilities and libraries.
