Commissioners, Aging True Board of Directors and leadershop cut the ribbon to open the new commercial kitchen
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla – The Clay County Board of County Commissioners and Clay County Senior Services of Aging True celebrated the newly-renovated commercial kitchen at the Clayton and Mildred Revels Senior Center in Green Cove Spring and the opportunities it affords the county's residents.
County leaders and Aging True staff held a ribbon cutting and open house to welcome the community to the new additions and look of the kitchen on February 7. Those upgrades to the kitchen include new commercial appliances and a remodeled interior design, which is more suitable for large-scale commercial food preparation. That, in turn, allows for more opportunities for Clay County residents.
The project increased the capacity of the kitchen to store food and prepare fresh, hot meals locally. Up until now, the food was prepared in Jacksonville and transported to Clay County. Prior to the renovations, the kitchen only had the capability of warming already prepared food. The senior kitchen can also function as a critical food preparation facility in the event of an emergency or natural disaster – making it a key component to disaster recovery and resiliency for Clay County residents.
STG Contracting Group with new commercial appliances
The project began in 2020 when the commercial appliances were purchased under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act of 2020. STG Contracting Group, Inc. began remodeling in March of 2022, and the final electrical work was completed in January 2023. Major upgrades include installing a commercial range and convection oven with an industrial exhaust hood, two commercial cooking kettles, commercial sinks and dishwasher, a walk-in freezer, upgraded food preparation surfaces, and a new serving window. Crews also installed a commercial fire suppression system and upgraded all plumbing and electrical work.
