GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla – Clay County’s Hurricane Evacuation Zones have been updated with new data this year and will be effective for the 2022 Hurricane Season beginning June 1.
The updated Northeast Florida Sea, Land, and Overland Surges from Hurricanes (SLOSH) model results were released by the National Hurricane Center in late 2021. The new Storm Surge Basin takes advantage of faster computing power to cover a more comprehensive area and provide a more inclusive picture of storm surge inundation into Clay County. This information, in combination with historical impacts and existing flood zones, is the basis for the new evacuation zone map. Residents who were previously not in an evacuation zone may now be included due to this updated storm surge data.
Remember, if you live in a mobile home or another type of vulnerable housing, regardless of its location, you are considered in an evacuation zone.
The updated Hurricane Evacuation Zone map can be downloaded here: Evacuation Zone Map.
Residents can also use the Find Your Evacuation Zone link to determine their evacuation zone using the address lookup tool.
Commission Chairman Wayne Bolla said, “The safety of all our citizens is of vital importance. Please take a few minutes to identify if you’re in an evacuation zone and if needed, make the right decision to evacuate to a safe location outside of an evacuation zone before a storm approaches our area.” Bolla added, “Have a plan in place that includes your evacuation routes, a safe place to stay, and an emergency supplies kit for your family and your pets.”
