Preliminary field work is underway for the Bonded Transportation Program project #2, County Road 209 (Russell Road) from County Road 315B to US 17, and from County Road 315B to south of Peter’s Creek.
Drivers should anticipate rolling, daytime, single-lane closures with flaggers Monday, November 22, and Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from County Road 315B just south of Traceland Avenue, north to Russell Road and continuing east to US 17. Single lane closures will also be in place on Russell Road from the intersection of County Road 315B northwest to Peter’s Creek. Single lane closures will occur in ½ mile sections for geotechnical pavement boring operations. Please use caution when driving in this area.
The subcontractor, CSI GEO Inc. began geotechnical boring operations the week of October 4, 2021, to obtain soil samples. Samples are being taken on both sides of CR209 and CR315B in 100-foot increments within the road widening limits.
Geotechnical investigations are performed to learn about the physical properties of the rocks and soil near locations that are being considered for construction. Before any ground level or underground work can be done, it’s necessary that those involved in completing the project know what ground conditions they are working with and what they may encounter as they progress. This information is important to ensure that they are using the correct tools for the job and that they will not encounter any unexpected obstacles.
Road construction will begin in summer 2022 with anticipated completion in summer 2024.
