 GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla – Clay County Public Libraries are now offering digital educational tablets for loan with your library card. Playaway Launchpads are pre-loaded with content curated by educational experts including a selection of apps, games, videos, and narrated stories that teach science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), early literacy, life skills, and critical thinking. Tablets are available with content targeted for children ages 3-5, 5-7, and 8-10 and provide hours of interactive learning and play with applications like Practice Makes Perfect, Monster Word Mash, and Math to the Max. Each tablet provides an independent learning experience and contains a unique variety of materials so patrons can select the Launchpad that best fits their interests.
These seven-inch, high definition, touch screen tablets are durable, 100 percent secure, and designed with a simple, easy-to-use interface. There is no download time and no need for Wi-Fi. Launchpads offer access to powerful digital content by simply turning on the device. Students using Playaway Launchpads can improve math and reading efficiency, increase science test scores, and expand their vocabulary.
Lynn Capps, MLIS, Assistant Director of Programs, Activities, & Outreach said, “Twenty-two Playaway Launchpads were generously donated by Elks Lodge #1892 in Green Cove Springs, and we are very excited to share them with our patrons!” Capps added, “These devices will have a powerful impact on early education and development and will allow children to expand their digital literacy skills while increasing their motivation and engagement with learning.”
Chairman of the Clay County Board of County Commissioners Mike Cella said, “Commissioners are working to bridge the digital divide in areas of the county with limited internet access. And with this generous donation from the Elks Lodge, our libraries can now provide access to the latest in educational technology anywhere in Clay County.”
Launchpads are available at each library branch and can be checked out for a two-week period and renewed for a second two-week period if no one is waiting for the device.
