We had a blast hosting our annual Blackbird Creek Fall Festival! Held at our Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve's (DNERR) Blackbird Creek Reserve in Townsend, the event, tailored to foster stewardship of the Delaware Bay, celebrate the richness of estuaries and Delaware's cultural traditions, brought together partners and families from throughout the state. With near-perfect weather, the day consisted of opportunities to learn from exhibitors with educational displays and demonstrations, tractor-pulled hayrides, kid-focused crafts, practice opportunities for young anglers, an archery trailer and more.
For more information on the Blackbird Creek Fall Festival visit de.gov/blackbirdfestival. We hope to see you there next year!

The sold-out Becoming an Outdoors-Woman event held October 4-6 was more than just like girl scout camp for adults; the event brought more than 50 participants together with DNREC staff, volunteers and instructors. From sunrise yoga and intro to archery to food, fun and fire, participants roughed it together learning skills and making memories.
Since the first Becoming an Outdoors-Woman event was held in Wisconsin, in 1991, this exciting international program has expanded to 46 states and seven provinces with more than 80 workshops offered each year. The main goal of the BOW program is to provide women with the opportunity to learn skills that encourage and enhance participation in outdoor activities, like hunting and shooting sports, fishing and boating, and non-harvest recreational activities.
Participants described the weekend as “phenomenally fun,” and agreed you’ll never regret this experience.

Recycling conserves valuable natural resources and energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and helps us take responsibility for our waste today, as opposed to leaving a burden for future generations.
Delaware has one recycling program that is the same whether at home, at work or at school. To learn more about how to recycle or check out our Recyclopedia tool that takes the guess work out of recycling, visit de.gov/recycling.

Weatherization Assistance Program
Has your home been serviced by the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)? If so, your household may qualify for free, innovative energy technology! A recent federal award allowing additional energy-saving systems for weatherized homes will fund electric heat pump installations in homes with fossil-fuel burning or inefficient heating systems. Heat pumps are an efficient alternative to furnaces and air conditioners, circulating heat throughout a home in cold seasons and moving it outdoors during warm seasons. More information on this offering will soon be available at de.gov/wap.
