With more than 1,000 volunteers signed up across 45 sites statewide, the 37th annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup returned stronger than ever after last year’s unprecedented cancellation due to severe weather. With perfect sunny skies, Saturday, Sept. 14 saw two coastal cleanup firsts: a boat team cleaning the Lewes Canal and skateboarders pitching in at the revamped 7th Street Boat Ramp in Wilmington, which also features a popular city-owned skate park.
We’re still counting the trash collected, but we also know our efforts can’t be measured by just one day. The work is every day, as demonstrated this week after we received reports of medical waste washing ashore. We want to assure everyone that we continue to work with federal, state and local partners to address the incident. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure the beaches remain safe for everyone.

Each year, artists—both local and from around the country—submit their detailed artwork in hopes of being featured on the next trout or waterfowl season stamps. The Delaware Waterfowl and Trout Stamp Contests conducted by the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife is a fun and engaging opportunity shed light on Delaware’s commitment to wildlife conservation through our stamp programs.
Our Division of Fish and Wildlife, in collaboration with Ducks Unlimited, launched the Delaware Waterfowl Stamp and print program in 1980 to raise funds for waterfowl conservation. These funds help acquire and improve wetland habitats that are essential for migratory waterfowl.
Additionally, Delaware has required trout stamps for anglers since the 1950s. The sale of these stamps supports stocking trout in select streams and ponds across the state.

Weatherization Assistance Program
Has your home been serviced by the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)? If so, your household may qualify for free, innovative energy technology! A recent federal award allowing additional energy-saving systems for weatherized homes will fund electric heat pump installations in homes with fossil-fuel burning or inefficient heating systems. Heat pumps are an efficient alternative to furnaces and air conditioners, circulating heat throughout a home in cold seasons and moving it outdoors during warm seasons. More information on this offering will soon be available at de.gov/wap.
