On April 22, 2024 people all over the world will celebrate Earth Day, renewing a commitment to being good stewards of the environment. At DNREC, Earth Day is every day, and we envision a Delaware that offers a healthy environment where people embrace a commitment to the protection, enhancement and enjoyment of the environment in their daily lives; where Delawareans’ stewardship of natural resources ensures the sustainability of these resources for the appreciation and enjoyment of future generations.
Are you looking for a way to make an impact? Here are a few ideas:
- Plant a tree - Visit your local business and purchase a seedling to plant. Don't forget to add it to the TEDI Tree Tracker at de.gov/tedi
- Conduct an impromptu cleanup - Grab your friends and family, walk through your community and pick up litter. Be sure to wear your protective gear!
- Volunteer with DNREC - We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups. Find opportunities at de.gov/dnrecvolunteer
- Educate yourself and others - The more we learn, the better we do. You can find helpful resources like our Recyclopedia tool that takes the guesswork out of recycling or our Energy Saving Checklist at dnrec.delaware.gov

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant
The Division of Climate, Coastal, and Energy (CCE) has received approximately $1.6 million through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), administered by the Department of Energy (DOE). This is a formula grant program designed to assist states, local governments, and tribes to implement strategies to reduce energy use, curb fossil fuel emissions, and improve energy efficiency. Approximately $1.0 million of CCE’s awarded funding will be used for local governments and Tribal communities. CCE seeks to invest in projects that provide the greatest community benefits and contributions towards energy efficiency, renewable energy, and conservation. For more information visit de.gov/eecbg.

Green Energy Program
The Green Energy Program applied for a $100 million competitive grant through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) – Solar for All (S4A), under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). S4A aims to bring solar to low – income and disadvantaged communities throughout the state. The funding was approved through Delaware State Clearinghouse (DSCC). However, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not expect to release funding until July of 2024. The funding is imperative to assist Delaware's most vulnerable and underserved communities, by investing in clean energy technologies and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additional information regarding federal funding can be found at de.gov/energyoffice.

Mosquito Control
The Mosquito Control Section uses a Spray Zone Notification System to let residents know when and where they plan to apply pesticides to control mosquito populations. An Online Spray Zone Map is updated each day (by 4 p.m.) to identify zones where spray activity is scheduled. Residents can use the map to see where spraying is planned. They can also sign up for notification, by text, phone call or email, of upcoming spray activities in any zone. de.gov/mosquito
