New Year, New Opportunities
I visited with family in another (warmer) part of the country this winter, and returned to icy blasts but the warmth of my home, my neighbors, and my neighborhood. I care a great deal about this place, and I know you do too, but I'm also excited to take opportunities to travel, visit with family, and get to know other cultures and communities. That's why with this newsletter, I'm letting you know that I will be abroad on a family sabbatical in Uruguay, South America, from mid-February to mid-July. I have dozens of cousins, a 101-year-old great aunt, and other extended family in Uruguay and Argentina, and I am eager to take this opportunity to spend time with them, deepen family ties, and explore this part of my cultural heritage. My children will enroll in local school and my wife and I will continue our work and volunteer commitments remotely.
I will continue serving as your ANC Commissioner through hybrid meetings, email, phone and text - I just won't be able to meet up in person. If you have questions, or you'd like to arrange a get-together before I leave, please reach out! And rest assured that I will continue to serve as 4D Grants Officer, 4D04 Commissioner, and keep interceding via email and phone on your behalf with city agencies and Council staff when you need help. It is common for ANC Commissioners to serve part of their term remotely, whether they are a college student, deployed overseas, or even in jail! I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue serving, and I look forward to catching up on all the events I've missed when I'm back in the summer.

DC Water Clean Rivers Impervious Area Charges On Hold For Now
Did you notice an increase in your Clean Rivers Impervious Area Charge (CRIAC) on your most recent water bill? DC Water has received feedback from the public, and many ANCs, that the rollout of these new charges was surprising and confusing. They therefore announced on December 30th that the changes are on hold, and they will work with ANCs throughout the city (among other avenues) to educate and help people understand the reason for the changes, the need for the fees to rebuild our stormwater drainage system, and address affordability. Stand by - I plan to invite DC Water to speak to our ANC soon about these topics.
