Happy Pride! My family made friends and had a blast watching World Pride Parade and attending other events over the last weekend. I hope you enjoyed the fun too!

Happy June, neighbors!
These are strange times - summer weather means outdoor hangouts, fun Pride parades, and pools opening. It also means Trump's military parade is coming to our city and things feel...unsettled in our nation, to say the least. I know I look forward to getting out in nature and unplugging from the news whenever I can, but I also know that democracy means we can't tune out - we, the people, together co-create our government. If we like it, we can get involved to support it. If we don't like it, we can work to change it. Regardless, it's up to us to help our neighbors and advocate for what our community needs. Government is not magic, it's us, working together, to get to know one another and build the society we want to live in. That's why I serve on ANC, and that's why I hope you'll get involved, right here in our neighborhood. See below for some great opportunities coming up:
🏳️🌈 Petworth Pride in the Park Saturday 10 am - noon! Join our very own nationally-renowned local drag queen Miss Tara Hoot and many neighbors and friends for a neighborhood Pride Festival in Sherman Circle. Thank you to Petworth Peanuts for hosting!
🧑🏻⚖️ Come to our ANC meeting next Wednesday evening! You can come virtually or in person, details below. You'll hear from representatives of the Mayor's office, Councilmember Lewis-George's team, and the Office of the Tenant Advocate. You can ask questions or show support for a potential new dog park near Emery Heights Rec. You can weigh in on our commission's proposed resolution in support of protecting DC's Sanctuary Values Act, showing real support to our immigrant neighbors in this time of scapegoating and fear. And at the end, you can stand up for a few minutes and share whatever is one your mind to help the community.
🍿 Movie Night - July 2nd at Lorenzo Allen Park! At 7 pm, DPR's Roving Leaders program will be showing an outdoor movie screening! I'll be there starting at 5:30 for snacks and chatting.
🫵🏼 Volunteer to help me flyer! I'm passing out flyers for the rest of June to introduce myself to neighbors and share how I can help, encourage people to sign up for this newsletter and attend ANC meetings, and learn more about how 311 works. Get in touch if you're available, even for half an hour, to pick up a few flyers and drop them off on your own block. THANK YOU for your help!
