Commissioner Joanne Doddy Fort Appointed to
Committees on Electricity and Critical Infrastructure
Commissioner Joanne Doddy Fort was recently appointed to serve on two committees, Electricity and Critical Infrastructure, under the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC). The Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia is a member of NARUC, which is a national association representing public service commissions that regulate essential utility services.
As a member of the Committee on Electricity, Commissioner Fort will work with other commissioners to develop national policies that promote the reliable, adequate, and affordable supply of electricity and work with Federal officials to improve the quality and effectiveness of electric utility regulation. Through the Committee on Critical Infrastructure with its focus on analyzing solutions to utility infrastructure security and delivery concerns, Fort will collaborate with other Commissions and their federal counterparts and develop and share best practices related to the protection of the nation’s energy and telecommunications infrastructure.
Fort stated that, “I am honored to be appointed to work with fellow utility commissioners to set and influence public policy in the areas of electric utility regulation and critical infrastructure operations. In addition to being issues of importance to national security, these are issues of keen importance to everyone who lives, works and visits the District of Columbia”
Joanne Doddy Fort was recently nominated by Mayor Gray and confirmed as Commissioner by the Council on October 3, 2012. She is an experienced attorney who has practiced law in the District of Columbia for more than three decades and has served as a corporate officer in the private sector. Commissioner Fort has an extensive background in the fields of utility regulation, administrative law, and ethics.
The District of Columbia Public Service Commission is an independent agency established by Congress in 1913 to regulate electric, natural gas and telephone companies in the District of Columbia.
