A Message from DC DMV Director Gabriel Robinson
Happy November, DC! As we enter the season of gratitude this month, I am thankful to work alongside such incredible DMV and DC Government colleagues who proudly demonstrate their dedication and commitment to the safety of District residents each and every day.
In this month's newsletter, we emphasize safe driving throughout the holidays and beyond – including tips on how to check your vehicle for recalls – and safe driving as we wind our clocks back an hour.
On behalf of DC DMV, I want to extend a sincere thank you this Veterans Day to the brave men and women in uniform who served our country and defended our freedom. Please note that all DC DMV locations will be closed November 11, 2026 in honor of Veterans Day.
In observance of Thanksgiving, all DC DMV locations will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, November 26, 2026.
As always, your feedback is important to us. Please write us a letter or join me for the DC DMV Live Chat, held the first Thursday of each month. Our next online live chat is scheduled for Thursday, December 3 at 12 p.m. For a full hour, I will respond in real time to any of your DMV-related questions.
To stay up to date on all things DC DMV year-round and catch engaging content like the car seat technician video included below, follow us across our social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
Thank you for reading this edition of our newsletter. Buckle up and drive safe, DC!

Safety Tips from a DC DMV Car Seat Safety Technician
Every Tuesday through Saturday year-round, the DC DMV Inspection Station team is onsite and ready to help inspect your vehicles—including performing car seat safety checks!
Through our Car Seat Safety Program, all DC residents can have their child car seats inspected and safely installed for free at the Inspection Station. Our certified car seat safety technicians are always happy to help!
Meet Mr. Walker, one of our car seat safety technicians, who has some helpful car seat safety tips geared towards new parents.
Vision Zero Reminder: Safe Driving at Dawn and Dusk
On November 1, we set our clocks back an hour, marking the end of daylight saving time. Driving at dawn and dusk can be especially challenging when the rising or setting sun catches your eyes. In times of lower light and visibility, it is important to stay aware of your surroundings when driving throughout the District and beyond.
Turning your headlights on early, keeping your windshield clean, and watching for pedestrians, vehicles, and bicyclists on all sides of the roads are just a few ways we can prevent road incidents. Thank you for continuing to practice safe driving!

DC DMV Proudly Offers Veteran Specialty Tags
As we commemorate Veterans Day this month, DC DMV is proud to offer specialty vehicle tags to those who have answered the call of duty. We offer several specialty Veteran tags with unique designations and emblems for each branch of the United States Armed Forces, as well as other groups of veterans, including the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, DC Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Marines, Navy, Purple Heart / Combat Wounded Veterans, and Woman Veterans.
Veterans pay a one-time application fee of $52 for the specialty tag and a yearly display fee of $26. Both the application and yearly display fee are deposited into the Office of Veterans Affairs Fund with all funds collected supporting resources and opportunities for our veteran community in the District. For more information about specialty vehicle tags, visit our website here.
Holiday Closure Update: Veterans Day, November 11

 Check for Recalls this Fall
As winter approaches and the weather changes, it is important to stay up to date on vehicle maintenance, including checking your tire pressure and other routine inspections and maintenance.
Whether you are looking to embark on holiday travel or are simply moving through the District as usual, be sure to check for possible recalls on your vehicle, car seat, or tires before getting on the road—safety recalls can be announced at any time! Learn more about vehicle and car seat recalls on our website.
