License Renewal, Annual Payment Due September 30

The deadline for select alcohol license renewals and annual payments is 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

  • License Renewal | Class B Retail, Internet, Manufacturer, or Wholesaler licenses
  • Annual Payment | Class C and D Tavern or Nightclub licenses

Failure to renew or submit a timely annual payment will result in penalties. A $50 per business day late fee will automatically begin accumulating on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Board will issue Cease and Desist Orders on Wednesday, October 21, and License Cancellation Orders on Wednesday, November 4.

If you no longer wish to operate, you must submit a License Cancellation Application.

Email ABCA.Renewal@dc.gov to request a duplicate renewal packet or invoice, or ask related license renewal or payment questions.

Settlement Agreements and Board Orders remain in effect and may affect venue eligibility.

Quarterly Statements Due October 30

Hotel, Restaurant, and Brew Pub license holders must file their third-quarter statement online by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 30. The statement must detail all sales and expense activity that occurred between July 1 and September 30, 2026.

  • Zero Sales? You Must Still File: Compliance filings are mandatory regardless of whether your alcohol sales, food sales, or expenditures total zero ($0).
  • Penalties for Missing the Deadline: Failure to submit your report on time may result in steep monetary fines, immediate license suspension or revocation, and will negatively affect your future renewal eligibility.

Holiday Extended Hours

Extended hours are regularly available through ABCA’s Extended Holiday Hours Program. Registration is free and covers approved holidays during the calendar year. New registrants must submit applications at least 30 days before their first holiday of participation.

Eligible licensees can extend alcoholic beverage service until 4:00 a.m. and operate for 24 hours during these upcoming holidays:

Indigenous Peoples' Day Weekend

  • Dates: Evening of Friday, Oct. 9 – Monday, Oct. 12 (ends 4:00 a.m.)
  • Deadline: Passed

Veterans Day

  • Dates: Evening of Tuesday, November 10 - Wednesday, November 11, and
    Friday, November 13 - Sunday, November 15 (ends 4:00 a.m.)
  • Deadline: Monday, October 12

ID Compliance Training Scheduled for September 28

ID Compliance training will be offered virtually on Monday, September 28, 2026, between
10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The course is free with registration.

The training educates retailers on underage drinking prevention by reducing youth access to alcohol. Funded by the US DOT/NHTSA and DC HSO, the course covers topics including:

  • DC and federal laws and regulations
  • Acceptable forms of photo identification—international, federal, and state
  • Practical tips and tools for verifying authentic photos IDs and identifying counterfeits
  • Reporting protocols and confiscations
  • Sale to Minor program

This course is not a substitute for the Alcohol Awareness Training, which must be completed to receive an ABC Manager License. A list of approved Alcohol Awareness Training providers is available online.


Daylight Saving Time

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Clocks must “fall back” on this date and be turned back at 2:00 a.m. by one (1) hour to 1:00 a.m. Licensees that normally end alcohol service at 2:00 a.m. will automatically gain an additional hour to sell and serve alcoholic beverages without penalty.

Licensees that have a Settlement Agreement or ABC Board Order limiting closing hours to
1:00 a.m. or earlier are not eligible to participate.


ABCA Office Closures, Board Recess

ABCA will be closed for the following dates and reopen at 8:30 a.m. on the following business day:

  • Monday, October 12 | Indigenous Peoples’ Day
  • Wednesday, November 11 | Veterans Day

The ABC Board will be in recess on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, October 14
  • Wednesday, November 11
