Connecticut Avenue NW Nighttime Northbound and Southbound Lane Closures at Dupont Circle on Friday, June 26, 2026
(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement temporary nighttime lane closures on Connecticut Avenue NW, between N Street and Q Street NW, from 8 pm to 5 am on Friday, June 26, weather permitting. The closures are part of the Connecticut Avenue Deckover and Streetscape Project.
Both the southbound and northbound lanes on Connecticut Avenue NW will be closed during the specified hours. Southbound traffic will be detoured via Massachusetts Avenue NW, going around Dupont Circle, while northbound traffic will be redirected around Dupont Circle to New Hampshire Avenue NW. The contractor will install signage and barriers along the route to help guide motorists through the detour.
The upcoming closures are necessary to allow construction crews to safely complete work in the tunnel area beneath Dupont Circle. During this period, crews will be removing the temporary Jersey barriers and replacing them with traffic drums. This preparation is part of the ongoing deckover infrastructure project, which will eventually involve above-ground work. Motorists are advised to plan for altered travel patterns during the closure, to use caution when traveling through the area, and to follow all posted signage.
The Connecticut Avenue Deckover and Streetscape Project will transform the corridor into a safer, more connected, and more vibrant public space by creating a new public space/deckover over Connecticut Avenue and enhancing the surrounding streetscape for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, residents, and local businesses. The project aims to improve accessibility, strengthen neighborhood connectivity, and support economic vitality while creating a welcoming public space and modernized public infrastructure in the heart of the community. Construction began in April 2025 and is expected to continue through summer 2027.
