Sidewalk and Temporary Lane Closure - Southbound William Howard Taft Memorial Bridge
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement a sidewalk closure and a temporary lane closure on the southbound side of the William Howard Taft Memorial Bridge beginning March 25, 2026. The temporary lane closure will occur daily from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The southbound sidewalk closure is expected to last until May 24, 2026.
These closures are necessary to support bridge improvement work, including the overhang shield installations and light pole removal. Pedestrians are advised to use the northbound sidewalk and follow posted signage to safely travel around the work zone. Traffic control measures, including signage, will be in place to guide both pedestrians and motorists.
Motorists are advised to plan accordingly, anticipate delays, and consider alternate routes during the construction period. DDOT appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as these improvements are made to enhance the safety and longevity of this critical transportation corridor.
All roadway users are encouraged to remain alert and observe posted signage while traveling through the area. To learn more about the William Taft Memorial Bridge Pedestrian Railing Improvement Project, visit: https://taftbridge.ddot.dc.gov.
