Dear Community Partners and Residents,
Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCRS), in partnership with the Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs (MOCA), invite you to participate in the 10th Annual Mayor Bowser Spring Cleanup.
On Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, volunteers across all eight wards will come together to beautify our neighborhoods, strengthen community pride, and keep Washington, DC clean. Community members, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and volunteers are encouraged to join us for a day of service and impact.
This year’s cleanup will also highlight sustainability in recognition of Earth Day. Working with DPW’s Office of Waste Diversion, the event will incorporate recycling and responsible waste management practices to help ensure that materials collected during the cleanup are properly separated and diverted from landfills whenever possible.
To support cleanup efforts, roll-off containers will be placed in each ward to help residents properly dispose of bulk waste and clutter. In addition, recycling stations will be available at each cleanup site, and volunteers will help participants separate recyclable materials from trash during the cleanup process.
Residents will also have the opportunity to participate in a battery recycling initiative by bringing old household batteries to designated collection points at each site. Batteries contain materials that should not be disposed of in regular trash and will be safely collected and recycled through the District’s waste diversion programs.
Educational materials and outreach will also be available to help residents learn more about recycling, composting, and waste reduction programs offered by the District. By incorporating sustainability into this citywide effort, the Mayor’s Spring Cleanup not only beautifies our neighborhoods but also encourages residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices that support a cleaner and healthier city.
