A Message from DC DMV Director Gabriel Robinson

It has been a cold winter in the District with January's record-breaking snow. Throughout this time, I sincerely hope that you have been staying warm and driving safe this winter season. Many thanks to our District Government partners at the Department of General Services (DGS), the Department of Public Works (DPW), and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) who have worked tirelessly to clear DMV's parking lots, sidewalks, and inspection bays across our locations, along with District streets in this persistent wintery mix. Slick roads may persist this month, so we have included some important reminders about staying safe in winter weather conditions below.  Black History is one of the reasons we love February at DMV! This month encourages us to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and inspire a more equitable future for all. February also celebrates love in all its forms with Valentine's Day, and we know there are few greater acts of love than giving the gift of life as an organ donor. This month we urge you to consider becoming an organ donor.  As always, your feedback is important to us. Write us a letter or join us for DMV's monthly Live Chat on the first Thursday of each month. February DC DMV Operating Hours

In recognition of Washington's Birthday, all DC DMV locations will be closed on Saturday, February 14 and Monday, February 16.

Please note - on February 5^th, the Georgetown DMV Service Center experienced a significant water main break. Due to flooding impacts, the Georgetown DMV Service Center will remain closed to the public until further notice. 

Many of DC DMV's services will remain available online or via the agency's free mobile app. 

Winter Weather Travel Reminders

As temperatures remain low, here are a few things you can do to ensure your safety and that of other drivers before you get on the road.

• Clear all ice off your vehicle before proceeding to your destination. Start with your car's roof - compacted ice can fly off and pose a serious risk to others on the road. 
• Be aware of your surroundings and of other drivers who may have ice on their vehicles.
• When parking and walking through the city, monitor melting ice on rooftops, as it can fall and create further hazards for you, your vehicle, and others. 

Avoid Risky Driving Behaviors. You know the rules: Do not text or drive distracted; don't crowd snowplows; obey posted speed limits; and always drive sober. Both alcohol and drugs can impair safe and responsible driving by affecting your coordination, judgment, perception, and reaction time. And remember - always wear your seat belt.

DC DMV Celebrates Black History Month 

February is Black History Month! We celebrate and remember the history, accomplishments and contributions of DC's Black residents, past and present. We honor the many legacies of Black people who have shaped our District, nation and world.  

DC DMV at the WANADA Washington Auto Show 

DC DMV was glad to be a part of the annual Washington DC Auto Show once again this January!

Members of our team participated in the 2026 Tag and Title Seminar, which gave us an opportunity to speak to area tag and title processors from Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA) dealerships and National Independent Vehicle Title Agents (NIVTA).

The DMV team focused on policy and procedure changes impacting dealers, common processing issues, and solutions, along with what dealers can expect in 2026.

The seminar also served as an important forum for the DC DMV to connect with our regional partners like the Maryland Motor Vehicle Association and the State Department's Diplomatic Motor Vehicle Program from the Office of Foreign Missions.
