Benning Road Bridges and Transportation Improvements Project – Advance Utility Relocations

(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is working with utility partners to complete advance relocations needed to allow the construction of the Benning Road Bridges and Transportation Improvements Project. Over the coming months, residents and commuters will see utility work zones in multiple locations on Benning Road NE between 34^th Street NE and Minnesota Avenue NE.

Beginning on Tuesday, December 23, PEPCO will implement single lane closure on westbound Benning Road between 39^th St NE and Minnesota Ave NE. The closure is required to allow construction of relocated PEPCO manholes and conduits.

Traffic controls, including signage information, will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area. DDOT urges all travelers to stay alert, follow posted signage, and use caution near the construction zone. The posted lane closures are needed for construction activities associated with the Benning Road Bridges and Transportation Improvements Project.

The Benning Road Bridges and Transportation Improvements Project will reconstruct Benning Road NE from 34^th Street NE to Minnesota Avenue NE, including the bridges across DC 295 and the CSX railyard, and the ramps between Benning Road and DC 295. Project construction is scheduled to begin in 2026.
