Temporary Lane Closures on Eastbound Maine Avenue SW begin Monday, October 27, 2025, through Friday, October 31, 2025
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close travel lanes and divert pedestrians on eastbound Maine Avenue SW for construction activities related to the Long Bridge Project. Travel impacts will occur during off-peak hours, between 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM. The work impacting traffic is anticipated to take place from Monday, October 27, 2025, through Friday, October 31, 2025.
-
Eastbound Maine Avenue SW from East Basin Drive to the Marina Parking Lot will experience a single right lane closure for eastbound traffic between East Basin Drive and the 1300 block of Maine Avenue SW. Access to the Washington Marina Company parking lot will be maintained throughout the work period. To ensure continued pedestrian access, pedestrians will be temporarily diverted into the closed right lane around the work zone.
-
Eastbound Maine Avenue SW from East Basin Drive to the Marina Parking Lot will have occasional flagging operations to stop traffic in the left lane on eastbound Maine Avenue.
-
The Pedestrian bridge over Maine Avenue SW, connecting to the Salamander Hotel, will remain open during this time. However, brief pauses in access may occur as crews complete certain construction operations.
Traffic controls, including signage and flagging operations, will be in place to guide motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists safely through the work zones. All roadway users are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and work zones while traveling in this area.
These closures are needed for construction activities associated with the Long Bridge Project. Virginia Passenger Rail Authority’s Long Bridge Project is a 1.8-mile rail improvement that will relieve one of the biggest rail bottlenecks on the East Coast. The project will improve reliability and expand capacity for both passenger and freight trains traveling between Virginia and Washington, D.C. The project will create a continuous four-track corridor between the Long Bridge Aquatic Center in Arlington and L’Enfant Plaza in D.C. It includes five new rail bridges and two new pedestrian and bicycle bridges. A new two-track rail bridge will be built over the Potomac River next to the existing Long Bridge, along with a new bike and pedestrian bridge connecting Long Bridge Park in Arlington to East and West Potomac Parks in D.C.
