Weeknight Lane Closures on the William Howard Taft Bridge (Connecticut Avenue NW) September 29, 2025 to October 2, 2025
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is installing Temporary Pedestrian Fencing in anticipation for future work associated with the William Howard Taft Bridge. Weather permitting, the temporary fence work and associated lane closure are anticipated to begin Monday, September 29, and conclude Thursday morning, October 2, 2025.
On Monday, September 29 and Tuesday, September 30 from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Northbound and Southbound traffic will be reduced to single NB and SB lanes, and the east side sidewalk of the bridge will be closed to install the Temporary Pedestrian Fencing. Pedestrian traffic on the east sidewalk will be detoured to the west side of the bridge during the closure. The sidewalks will be closed at the closest intersections, specifically at Calvert St. NW and Kalorama Rd NW.
On Wednesday, October 1 and Thursday, October 2, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Northbound and Southbound traffic will be reduced to single NB and SB lanes, and the west side sidewalk of the bridge will be closed to install the Temporary Pedestrian Fencing. Pedestrian traffic on the west sidewalk will be detoured to the east side of the bridge during the closure. The sidewalks will be closed at the closest intersections, specifically at Calvert St. NW and Kalorama Rd NW.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow for additional travel time, and consider alternative routes. DDOT thanks the traveling public for their patience as we work to improve the safety and longevity of this critical transportation link.
Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to guide motorists safely through the work zones. All roadway users are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and work zones while traveling in this area.
