Maine Avenue SW Access Road to 14th Street - Traffic Pattern Change Starting Monday, August 25, 2025
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement traffic changes to the Maine Avenue SW westbound access road to northbound 14th Street SW as part of construction activities for the pedestrian bridge over Maine Avenue SW, which is a component of the Long Bridge Project.
Beginning on or about Monday, August 25, 2025, and continuing through the year 2030, the Maine Avenue SW westbound access road to northbound 14th Street SW will be closed to through traffic. During this period, on-street parking in the affected area will not be available.
Access to the 1331 Maryland Avenue parking garage and loading dock will be maintained. A portion of the access road will be temporarily converted into a local two-way street, where motorists can enter from D Street SW.

 Traffic controls, including signage and detour information, will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area. DDOT urges travelers to stay alert, follow posted signs, and use caution near the construction zone. These detours are necessary to support construction activities for the Long Bridge Project.
The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority’s Long Bridge Project will add a new two-track railroad bridge next to the existing Long Bridge across the Potomac River. The new rail bridge will relieve a major transportation bottleneck between the northern and southern regions of the U.S., improving reliability and expanding the nation’s passenger and freight networks. The project will also create a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the river, connecting Arlington’s Long Bridge Park and the Mount Vernon Trail to the District’s East and West Potomac Parks. Additional improvements along the 1.8-mile project corridor include five rail bridges and two pedestrian/bicycle bridges.
