August arrives with strength and with news that marks a turning point for our city: the Washington Commanders are coming back to the historic RFK campus! This initiative, led by our Mayor Muriel Bowser, goes far beyond sports: It’s a vision of urban transformation and development that will have a direct impact on our communities.
The project includes not only the construction of a world-class stadium but also the revitalization of more than 180 acres with new housing, green spaces, businesses, recreational facilities, and entertainment centers. And most importantly: it will create thousands of jobs in construction, hospitality, and services, a significant opportunity for our Latino community.
We know our people have the experience, talent, and determination to move forward. This project can be a gateway to stable, well-paying jobs with long-term potential. In addition, local businesses, many of them Latino-owned, will also have the opportunity to be part of the new economic ecosystem that will emerge from this development. At MOLA, we’re working to ensure our community is ready, informed, and connected to each of these opportunities.
And as we do every August, we prepare for back-to-school season. It’s important for families to make sure their children are up to date on their vaccinations to ensure a safe and healthy start to the school year. In the District of Columbia, there are specific immunization requirements for school enrollment and attendance. You can find the updated list of requirements at osse.dc.gov/immunizations. There are also free clinics and resources available across the city to support you in this process. Education starts with health, and together, we can ensure a successful school year for all our children.
Our commitment is clear: to connect our people with solutions. And now more than ever, we reaffirm our mission to build the best city in the world together.
¡Estamos aquí para servirte! We are here to serve you!
