DDOT Begins Milling and Paving Efforts on Pennsylvania Avenue from 13th Street NW to 3rd Street NW
(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has started milling and paving Pennsylvania Avenue from 13th Street NW to 3rd Street NW in preparation for the upcoming Presidential Inauguration. Operations are underway, with two lanes of westbound Pennsylvania Avenue already milled.
Eastbound and Westbound milling and paving will begin tonight, Thursday, October 10, and is expected to continue for approximately one week through October 16, 2024. All milling and paving efforts related to this project will occur between 7:00 pm and 5:00 am and on the weekends. Temporary lane closures are to be expected with one travel lane remaining open at all times. Adjacent curbside parking may be restricted during the repair work.
Adjacent curbside parking may be restricted during the repair work. If so, parking signs will be posted at least 72 hours in advance at locations where parking will be restricted. The emergency “NO PARKING” signs will provide details of the hours of construction operations, dates, duration of the work, and contact information of the engineer in charge. Work along this corridor began on September 9, 2024. The entire roadway restoration project is anticipated to be completed by Friday, November 22, 2024.
Traffic control devices will be in place to warn pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers approaching the work zone(s). Drivers are advised to stay alert while traveling near the work locations, be prepared for possible detours and to be observant of the work zone. Cyclists should be prepared to adjust their route accordingly. Metro buses will continue normal routes. Flaggers will be available to manage traffic and arrow boards will be utilized, as necessary.
During this effort, DDOT has been aware of a few special events on Pennsylvania Avenue. DDOT will cease milling and paving during these events and resume work at the end of each event. Motorists traveling in this vicinity may encounter delays and should allow additional travel time. Motorists should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns when approaching the work zone and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
