New Traffic Pattern for Florida Avenue & New York Avenue NE Intersection Begins July 27
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is alerting all stakeholders to expect new traffic pattern changes at the intersection of Florida Avenue NE and New York Avenue NE beginning on July 27, 2024, weather permitting.
Drivers should be aware that the following modifications will take effect:
- The newly constructed First Street NE will open to two-way traffic between Florida Avenue NE and New York Avenue NE.
- Florida Avenue NE will open to two-way traffic.
This traffic change is necessary to begin phase 4 construction of the Florida Avenue NE & New York Avenue NE Intersection Project, which focuses on the construction of three (3) new park areas, which will be constructed in the following locations.
- Parcel 1: Next to the People’s Building (between Florida Avenue NE and First Street NE).
- Parcel 2: At the center of the intersection of First Street NE, Florida Avenue NE, and New York Avenue NE.
- Parcel 3: Next to the ATF Building (between New York Avenue NE and Florida Avenue NE).
Please expect delays. Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to guide motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians safely through the work zone. All users of the roadway are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and work zones while traveling in this area.
The completed project will improve overall safety for pedestrians, motorists and cyclists along the corridor. The project features Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant intersections, traffic calming measures, improved traffic signal operation, enhanced streetscape and three new green spaces.
