Traffic Advisory: DC-295 Southbound & Northbound Lane Closures Starting June 10
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement temporary double-lane closures on the northbound and/or southbound lanes of DC-295 as needed starting June 10, 2024 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. The closure will be in place for approximately two weeks. The work will begin in the northbound lanes for approximately three nights and then switch to the southbound lanes for an additional three nights. The work will take place adjacent to the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge between Quarles Street and Nash Street.
Please avoid traveling on DC-295 during these times. Closures will start at Route 50 (John Hanson Highway) southbound and continue northbound to Benning Road NE.
These closures are necessary to advance work on the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge which will include installing mesh cover on the new bridge over DC-295 and installing the cantilever road sign, amongst other construction activities.
Once completed, the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge project will remove and replace the existing bridge over Kenilworth Avenue NE (DC-295) and adjacent service roads with a new bridge with increased vertical clearance and ADA compliant ramps, as well as improving the bridge’s structural integrity.
