Traffic Advisory: Bridge and Tunnel Inspections Cause Temporary Lane Closures in Multiple Locations June 10 – June 14

(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close single lanes on the following roadways for bridge and tunnel inspections:

Whitehurst Freeway over Lower K Street and Water Street

Alternating right and left lane closures of northbound Whitehurst Freeway over Lower K Street and Water Street, followed by alternating right and left lane closures of southbound Whitehurst Freeway over Lower K Street and Water Street from Monday, June 10, 2024, to Tuesday, June 11, 2024, during the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. 

Southeast/Southwest Freeway (I-695) over 4^th Street SE and 6^th Street SE

Alternating right and left lane closures of eastbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway (I-695) over 4^th Street, S.E. and 6^th Street, S.E. followed by alternating right and left lane closures of Westbound Southeast/Southwest Freeway (I-695) over 4^th Street SE and 6^th Street SE on Monday, June 10, 2024, and Tuesday, June 11, 2024 during the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. 

Suitland Parkway under Anacostia Freeway (I-295)

Alternating right and left lane closures of Eastbound Suitland Parkway under Anacostia Freeway (I-295) followed by alternating right and left lane closures of Westbound Suitland Parkway under Anacostia Freeway (I-295) on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, and Wednesday June 12, 2024, during the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting.

6^th Street SE under Southeast/Southwest Freeway (I-695)

Alternating right and left lane closures of 6^th Street SE. under Southeast/Southwest Freeway (I-695) on Wednesday, June 12^, 2024, through Friday, June 14^, 2024, during the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. 

Lower K Street, N.W. and Water Street, N.W. under Whitehurst Freeway NW

Alternating right and left lane closures with flagging operations of Lower K Street, N.W. and Water Street, N.W. under Whitehurst Freeway, N.W. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, through Friday, June 14, 2024, during the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Anacostia Freeway (I-295) over Suitland Parkway

Alternating right and left lane closures of Northbound Anacostia Freeway (I-295) over Suitland Parkway followed by alternating right and left lane closures of Southbound Anacostia Freeway (I-295) over Suitland Parkway on Thursday, June 13, 2024, during the hours of 10:00 AM through 3:00 PM, weather permitting.

Ramps from Southbound Anacostia Freeway (I-295) to Suitland Parkway

Alternating right and left lane closures of the ramp from southbound Anacostia Freeway (I-295) to eastbound Suitland Parkway followed by narrowing closure of the ramp from Southbound Anacostia Freeway (I-295) to westbound Suitland Parkway on Friday, June 14, 2024, during the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Traffic controls will be in place to warn drivers approaching the areas. Motorists should anticipate moderate-to-heavy delays due to the lane closures. Drivers are advised to stay alert while traveling through these locations and to be observant of the inspection personnel.
