Traffic Advisory: Expect Traffic Delays as DC PLUG Impacts Lane and Sidewalk Closures Across the District Starting June 6
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises stakeholders to expect delays due to upcoming lane and sidewalk closures for the DC Power Line Undergrounding (DC PLUG) initiative which consists of undergrounding powerlines for a more resilient DC.
The following lane closures will take place as weather permits:
Temporary westbound and northbound lane closure along the 200 block of Chesapeake Street SW between 2nd Street SW and Overlook Avenue SW from June 6, 2024, to July 6, 2024, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The closures are needed to install manholes, conduits and tapholes.
Temporary southbound and northbound lane closures to install manholes and conduits on the 200 and 400 blocks of Orange Street SE between 2nd Street NE and 5th Street SE from June 6 ,2024 to June 8, 2024. Residents will have continued access to their homes during this time. The public is asked to adhere to all “No Parking” signs in the area.
Temporary northbound lane closures to install recessed manholes, conduits and asphalt base on the 3000 block of 4th Street SE between Orange Street and Oakwood Street SE June 10, 2024, to July 10, 2024.
Temporary westbound and eastbound lane and sidewalk closures in the unit and 200 to 500 blocks of Malcolm X Avenue SE between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and the 295 Ramp SE from June 10 to July 10, 2024.
Temporary southbound and northbound lane closures from the 400 to 600 blocks of Mellon Street SE from June 10, 2024, to July 10, 2024.
Temporary westbound and eastbound lane closure from the 200, 400 and 500 blocks of Oakwood Street SE from June 6, 2024, to July 6, 2024. Residents will have continued access to their homes during this time. The public is asked to adhere to all “No Parking” signs in the area.
The DC PLUG initiative is a partnership between DDOT and Pepco to improve the resiliency and reliability of the District of Columbia electric system by placing select systems underground. Feeders are primary distribution power lines that provide services to approximately 1,100 residents within a specific neighborhood.
