DOB Marks International Women's Day

International Women's Day

Dear Customers,

We wanted to wish a very happy International Women’s Day to the bold, dynamic, and talented women of DOB, the District, and the world!

As part of Women's History Month, International Women's day reminds us that our progress is the direct result of the action of women: their collaboration, compassion, and commitment makes our world a better place to live in. May this commemorative day and month be a celebration of your diverse contributions in the workforce and your respective communities. Each day, you help strengthen and uplift the quality of life for others by exercising care for those in need, challenging inequity, and creating pathways for others.

Women Are Leading The Way At DOB

Not only is DOB one of the District’s newest agencies, but over 50% of our senior leadership team are women. Their contributions are going a long way towards driving the agency forward to improve our service delivery to make the District an even better place to live, work, and play.

We are especially proud of some of our trailblazers on our senior leadership team:

Nicole Rogers

Nicole Rogers is the first Black woman to serve as Chief Building Official in the District of Columbia, and from what we could find, the first in the entire nation. Her vision and oversight of DOB's Office of Construction and Building Standards  is critical to helping shape DOB into the agency it needs to be for the District.

Kathleen Beeton

Kathleen Beeton is the first woman to serve as Zoning Administrator in the District's history. As the head of the Office of Zoning Administration (OZA), her wealth of knowledge regarding the Zoning Regulations and zoning best practices are vital for DOB as we seek to ensure a dynamic and sustainable built environment.

Esther McGraw

Esther McGraw serves as DOB's General Counsel, and is the first Asian woman to do so. As the leader of DOB's Office of General Counsel (OGC), Esther and her team of attorneys represent DOB in litigation and in other legal matters in which DOB is a party or has legal interest. Esther and her team's efforts are paving the way for noncompliant housing providers to be held accountable for lack of abatement of code violations. Her team also assures the legal sufficiency of DOB's programs and policies.

Throughout this month, we plan to highlight Women of DOB, by sharing their stories of courage, determination and tenacity which helps us advance our mission and change lives on a local and national scale. Thank you for all that you do!
