DDOT Begins Construction on 11th Street NW Bus Priority Project
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is anticipating beginning construction on 11th Street NW from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to L Street NW on March 11, 2024. This work is being done as part of the 11th Street NW Bus Priority Project. The specific changes include rebalancing (relocation and/or removal) of bus stops, crosswalk safety modifications, the upgrade of the existing standard bicycle lanes to protected bicycle lanes, the installation of red bus lanes, and the installation of curb extension platforms at bus stops (shared bus/bike stops). The bus lanes will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except for the east side of the 900 block where parking will be allowed on Sundays.
Parking Changes
Parking will be removed on most blocks of 11th Street NW, between Pennsylvania Avenue NW and L Street NW; parking and curbside access will remain on the east side of the 700 block and the west side of the 900 and 1000 blocks. These changes are necessary for the inclusion of pedestrian, bicycle, and transit safety and efficiency features that are the core purpose of this project. All access to parking garages and alleys will be maintained.
Construction Timeline
Construction will begin in March 2024 and is expected to last four months from start to finish. Parking will be prohibited at times on a short-term basis during daytime hours to allow for construction activities to take place. Emergency No Parking signs will be posted 72 hours in advance of road work to provide vehicle owners an opportunity to move their vehicles from work zones.
