Traffic Advisory: Temporary Northbound & Southbound Lane Closures on DC-295 – February 20, 2024
(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement temporary double-lane closures, as needed, on the north and southbound DC-295. The work will start in the Southbound direction for approximately three working nights and then switch to the Northbound direction for approximately three working nights.
Work will take place adjacent to Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge (between Quarles Street NE and Nash Street NE), beginning February 20, 2024, from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am, weather permitting. Please avoid traveling on DC-295 during this time. Closures will be in effect beginning at Route 50 (John Hanson Highway) southbound and traveling northbound at Benning Road NE.
The closure will be in place for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
These closures are necessary to advance work on the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge, which will include the removal of structures on the existing pedestrian bridge, amongst other construction activities.
Once completed, the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge project will remove and replace the existing bridge over Kenilworth Avenue NE (DC-295) and adjacent service roads with a new bridge with increased vertical clearance and ADA-compliant ramps, as well as improving the bridge’s structural integrity.
