Traffic Advisory: Temporary Closures of the North and Southbound Lanes on DC-295
(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement temporary closures of the north and southbound lanes on DC-295, overnight starting tonight, Friday, February 9, for the erection of the main span of the new Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge. Please avoid traveling on DC-295 during this time.
Operational hours for this critical closure will be from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9 - Saturday February 10, at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting, to minimize the impact on residents and the traveling public. Work will take place adjacent to the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge (between Quarles Street NE and Nash Street NE), weather permitting.
Closures will be in effect beginning at Route 50 (John Hanson Highway)/Baltimore-Washington Parkway southbound, and traveling northbound at Benning Road NE. The lane closures will begin on DC-295 at Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE northbound, and Route 50 (John Hanson Highway) traveling southbound.
During this time, the existing Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge will be closed until the opening of the new pedestrian bridge. While the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge is closed, pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the Nash Street Pedestrian Bridge.
A detour plan is in place to keep traffic moving. The DC-295 detour will consist of two-lane closures of the North and South bound lanes with intermediate full closures of DC-295 between 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9 to Saturday February 10 at 5:00 a.m.
