Did you know that FITDC Fresh Start 5K has a 10-year tradition and attracts thousands of people for a run or fun walk on New Year's Day?
Join Mayor Bowser at the 10th annual FITDC Fresh Start 5K on New Year's Day!
- Where: Freedom Plaza (1455 Pennsylvania Ave NW)
- When: Monday, January 1, 2024, registration begins at 10:00 a.m. and 5K begins 11:00 a.m.
Those who register in advance will receive a commemorative t-shirt, runner’s bib, and medal. And to save time on New Year's Day, you can pick up your items on Thursday, December 28 and Friday, December 29 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at one of the following four locations:
- Columbia Heights Community Center (1480 Girard Street NW)
- Edgewood Recreation Center (300 Evarts Street NE)
- Deanwood Community Center (1350 49th Street NE)
- Takoma Aquatic Center (300 Van Buren Street NW)

Applications for My School DC are now open

My School DC is a random lottery and there is no advantage to applying first; however, applicants must apply by the application deadlines:
- February 1, 2024 for grades 9-12
- March 1, 2024 for grades PK3-grade 8

GRACIAS Awards 2023: Leading Cultural Awareness
 On December 9th, Director Eduardo Perdomo received the 2023 GRACIAS Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership in advancing necessary programs and resources that enhance the well-being of Latino residents. His commendable efforts have significantly contributed to fostering cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion within our District.
The prestigious award was bestowed upon him at the Caobas Foundation's Annual Red and Black Christmas Gala, where Director Jackie Reyes was also in attendance.
The Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the approval of additional funds from the U.S. Treasury for the Whitman-Walker Max Robinson Center at the St. Elizabeths East headquarters.
 On December 11, 2023 Mayor Muriel Bowser, accompanied by officials from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the DC Government, and Whitman-Walker, has announced the approval of a $22.5 million investment from the American Rescue Plan’s Capital Projects Fund for the Whitman-Walker Max Robinson Center.
The Max Robinson Center, inaugurated in September, spans 118,000 square feet and offers a comprehensive array of services to the community, including primary care, dental and HIV care, behavioral health services, substance use counseling, and pharmacy services.
This federal funding will facilitate the ongoing expansion of the Max Robinson Center and the establishment of a new research facility, as the center endeavors to augment Whitman-Walker's care capacity by adding 10,000 patients and clients annually by 2025.
Christmas for Our Seniors: Mayor Muriel Bowser hosted the twenty-fifth annual celebration for Seniors
 On December 13th, Director Eduardo Perdomo, Director Jackie Reyes and all of Mayor Muriel Bowser's Community Affairs agencies shared moments of joy and smiles with our beloved Seniors. Happy holidays full of love and gratitude!
Mayor Muriel Bowser, in collaboration with PANAM through her Office of Latino Affairs, generously distributed over 10,000 pounds of food to benefit the community.
On December 14th, Director Eduardo Perdomo, alongside his dedicated team and in partnership with Panam International, distributed baskets containing chickens and provisions for Christmas dinner to Latino families in DC. A total of over 10,000 pounds of food were disseminated through these baskets, positively impacting and providing for more than 500 families.
Celebrating 53 years of VIDA Senior Center!

On December 16th, the 53rd Vida Gala took place, marking over half a century of the organization's dedication to cultivating life and excellence. This significant achievement stands as a testament to the ongoing commitment of the community. Over the years, Vida has made a positive impact on the lives of many, offering crucial support and services to the senior community. Congratulations to Vida on reaching this significant milestone, and may they continue to achieve success, making a positive difference in people's lives for years to come!
A City in Constant Evolution: Latinos Complete First Construction Project in Washington DC
 On December 16th, Directors Eduardo Perdomo and Jackie Reyes were in attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of The V at Georgia Avenue, Dynamerica's inaugural construction project. This accomplishment is the result of the dedication and vision of Dominican-born brothers Hector and Rafael Rodriguez, along with Salvadoran Miriam Ochoa.
Situated in the heart of Park View, The V at Georgia Avenue is a realization of Dynamerica's aspirations and serves as a testament to the essence of Washington, D.C. This project not only signifies a significant milestone for Dynamerica but also mirrors the dynamic and consistent growth of the city.
Mayor Muriel Bowser extends her congratulations to Dynamerica for this remarkable achievement, expresses gratitude for their exemplary contribution to the community, and wishes them continued success.
Christmas Magic at Mechos in Ward 5!
 On December 16th, a delightful Christmas celebration took place for families and children in Ward 5 of the District at Mechos Restaurant. It was a day filled with joy and generosity, with the distribution of nearly 200 gifts, spreading the spirit of solidarity and love to the local residents. May the magic of Christmas endure in every corner of our beloved city!
